A new poll found that over half of Americans think Chicago is more dangerous than any other large U.S. city. But their perception does not match the reality of the Windy City's crime rate, which is actually falling. Read here for more

Congratulations to Dr. Mark Singer of Case Western Reserve University, who has been elected as a Fellow of the American Academy of Social Work and Social Welfare. The Academy is an honorific society of distinguished scholars and practitioners dedicated to achieving excellence in the field of social work and social welfare through high-impact work that advances social good.

To be selected one must be a distinguished scholar whose work is recognized as having had a significant impact. Fellows are first nominated by current members of the Academy and then 
approved by a majority of the members of the Nominations Committee.

The “Gun Violence, Prevention and Solution Forum” will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at the Jerry Sue Thornton Center located at 2500 E. 22nd St., Cleveland, Ohio 44115. The event will begin at 9:00 a.m. and conclude at 3:00 p.m.

 There are four panel discussions planned which will each include Q & A: Law Enforcement, Media, Government & Legislation and Community/Grassroots. The moderators are Rick Jackson of IdeaStream, Basheer Jones, Rev. Dr. Jawanza Colvin and Bikari Kitwana. We have over 22 panelist which include Congresswoman Marcia L. Fudge, Avery Friedman of Avery Associates, Ron Richards of the Cleveland Foundation, Pastor R.A. Vernon of the Word Church, Connie Harper with the Call & Post and Andy Gonzalez, Chief of Police, CMHA. The luncheon keynote speaker will be former San Francisco Mayor Willie L. Brown Jr.

 We are gathering to discuss solutions that can have an immediate impact to disrupt the epidemic of gun violence in our city!
